Task Five: Synopsis, Section 5: Treatment
Synopsis
Our thriller’s narrative follows two individuals who find comfort and support in each other’s company. One is a confused, neglected adolescent lad who is finding growing up harder than he thought it would be and the other is a middle aged psychotic living in the house next door. The lad has no real father figure in his life, excluding his mother’s drunken mess of a boyfriend who often would rather hand out a beating than some fatherly advice. The boy’s murderous new neighbour finds that there may be alternatives to killing people for his kicks through the friendship with the boy, which is the first non killing fun he’s experienced in his highly troubled life. The mid section of the film shows how both characters learn from one another, the lad learns some life lessons about only being able to trust himself in the world while the films killer struggles with his inner demons in an attempt to form a relationship with a female character rather than killing her. The tension in the film is created because the audience understands the neighbour is a murderer from early on, and is therefore on edge waiting to see if a major character will be killed will be killed when in his company. After a few false scares, the kill will come at an unexpected moment to the audience.
